The MANCOSA School of Education’s iTEACHlab delivered the first session of the Applications Skills strand, which is part of the Robotics and Coding Facilitators Course, to the SOE Durban students. This contact session took place on Saturday, 13 August 2022 at the MANCOSA School of Education’s Durban campus.

This session covered Introduction to Spreadsheets using MS Excel, and Introduction to Word Processing using MS Word.

The first half of the session covered spreadsheets using MS Excel. Students were taken through concepts such as the user interface, how to use various features and tools in Excel, as well as how it can be used in problem-solving. Students were given practical tasks during the session as well as a practical Excel project, which they had to complete within a certain time frame.

After a quick break, the second half of the session resumed. During this part of the session, Introduction to Word Processing was covered using MS Word. Students gained more insight into the benefits of word processing and creating documents using a variety of tools and features available on MS Word. The session also included practical tasks and a practical Word project for the students to complete and present.

Students found the session quite beneficial and are looking forward to the virtual Applications Skills session in September, where they will be trained on using Paint 3D.
