The MANCOSA School of Education’s iTEACHlab hosted a Problem-Solving and Decision-Making Bootcamp for all MANCOSA students on Saturday, 24th June 2023.
The bootcamp took place simultaneously in the Durban, Johannesburg, and Cape Town iTEACHlabs’. The Problem-Solving Boot Camp was designed to foster and cultivate the critical 21st-century skill of problem-solving. The aim of this intensive bootcamp was to equip students with the necessary tools, techniques, and mindset to effectively identify, analyse, and solve complex challenges across various domains.
To begin the bootcamp, there were insightful and informative presentations on 3 types of problem-solving techniques. The techniques that were covered are Brainstorming, the 5 Why Technique, and Decision Matrix. After the presentations, students got into breakout rooms for an exciting activity called “Stranded at Sea”. This activity allowed students to use the problem-solving techniques learned and apply them in their groups, using “survival items” that they were equipped with. Thereafter, the groups were given the real-world problem of load-shedding to solve and present their solutions to all.
The Problem-Solving Boot Camp has been a transformative experience, empowering MANCOSA students to unlock their full potential as problem-solvers. As they venture forth into the world, they carry with them the spirit of inquiry, the tenacity to overcome obstacles, and the belief that every problem holds within it an opportunity for growth and innovation
